Who we are
The Max & Sam Tennis Foundation runs and supports sports programmes for underprivileged children in Africa.
The Foundation, which is run by a team of volunteers, was formed in 2008 by former professional tennis player, Samuel Jalloh and Max Thompson, son of former England and Liverpool footballer, Phil Thompson.
What we do
The Foundation organise, support and promote sports coaching and competition programmes including tennis, football and table tennis in Africa for both adults and children. We want to increase the number of children, both boys and girls, taking part in physical activity to help build a brighter future for the individuals and the countries they are from.
Through kind donations from individuals and organisations, we provide equipment to participants to take part in sporting activities in the programmes that we support. Equipment is distributed to the programmes we support, every year.
We support educational opportunities for children by supporting school fees for a number of individuals and providing donated resources for schools, in particular stationery. We also support adults and train them to be sports coaches and competition organisers to help deliver sports programmes in Africa.
The Foundation also looks to provide support to individuals and teams to access international competitive opportunities to help players from our programmes achieve their potential.
Our long term aim is to develop facilities for the playing of sport, particularly tennis, to allow more people to take part in the sport.
Providing sporting opportunities enables children to engage in a healthy discipline, set and achieve goals, learn good sportsmanship, acquire self-respect and instil integrity and self-confidence. Sport is our mechanism through which messages of peace and hope can be disseminated to the younger generation giving them the confidence and desire to become responsible adults, who contribute to building a safe, productive and peaceful society.
